Where we work in Lymm
Lymm village, Rushgreen and Oughtrington — period and Victorian property, barn and stable conversions, and the sort of jobs where heritage colours, matt finishes and dual-colour frames matter.
Broomedge, Heatley and Statham — larger detached houses with substantial rear gardens. Wide multi-pane bi-fold runs and sliding patio doors on open-plan extensions.
Booths Hill and Higher Lane — mixed, with a lot of extension and renovation work.
The Lymm conservation area
The village centre, the area around Lymm Cross, Lymm Dam and much of the Bridgewater Canal frontage sit within a designated conservation area. Permitted development rights are restricted there, which means replacing windows or doors with a different material or style can need consent even where a like-for-like swap wouldn’t.
That’s not a barrier to bi-folds. It’s a reason to have the conversation before ordering rather than after. Rear elevations not visible from a public highway are the least constrained, and slim aluminium in a heritage or matt finish is a far easier proposal to a conservation officer than a gloss white uPVC folding door.
Specification that suits Lymm
Standard anthracite grey is the national default, and on a rendered new-build it’s right. On a brick or sandstone Lymm property it often isn’t. Matt bronze, heritage greens, blacks and textured finishes sit better against older masonry, and the difference is obvious once you see them side by side.
Slim steel-look aluminium windows on the same elevation are worth considering — on a barn or coach house conversion they read as correct in a way a standard casement doesn’t.
