Our base is in Rixton, Cheshire, which puts most of the county inside an hour. We’ve fitted bi-folds in barn conversions near Tabley, 1930s semis in Northwich, Georgian townhouses in Chester and new-builds on every estate between the two — and the interesting thing about working across Cheshire is how little those jobs have in common.
Which is why we survey every one of them.
Cheshire is three or four different property markets wearing the same county name.
The rural belt — Tabley, Plumley, Mobberley, Great Budworth, Antrobus, Croft. Farmhouses, barn conversions and large plots. This is where the wide multi-pane runs go, and where heritage and textured finishes matter more than anthracite grey. A barn conversion with a five-pane bi-fold in RAL 7016 gloss looks wrong; the same door in a matt bronze or a heritage green looks like it was always there.
The commuter towns — Knutsford, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Hale, Bowdon. Large detached properties, significant renovation budgets, and a lot of open-plan rear extensions. Slim sightlines, dual colour, integrated blinds, flush thresholds — the full specification, usually alongside matching aluminium windows on the whole rear elevation.
The market towns — Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich, Frodsham. Solid Victorian and inter-war housing, and a lot of straightforward window-to-bi-fold conversions at the £2,995 end.
Chester and its villages — heavily conservation-controlled, a lot of listed and locally listed property, and the county’s most restrictive planning environment. See Chester.
The new-build estates — everywhere from Handforth Dean to Winnington. Openings are square, the work is clean, and the most common job is replacing a developer-spec patio door with something considerably better.

Cheshire isn’t one council, and it catches people out.
Because we’re CERTASS registered, this is largely our problem rather than yours — we self-certify the glazing installation and register it with whichever authority applies, and your Building Regulations Compliance Certificate follows within about four weeks.
Where it does matter to you is conservation areas and Article 4 directions, and Cheshire has a lot of both — Knutsford town centre, large parts of central Chester, Great Budworth, Tabley, Bowdon, and most of the villages along the Bollin. Permitted development rights are commonly restricted, which means a change of window style or material can need consent even on a rear elevation. We check at survey.

The whole county in practice. Chester and Crewe are the furthest regular runs and we do both.
On modern and rendered houses, anthracite grey (RAL 7016). On period and rural property, matt bronze, heritage greens and blacks look considerably better than a standard gloss grey. We’ll bring samples.
Possibly. Conservation status doesn’t automatically block replacement glazing, but it restricts permitted development, and changing material or style is where applications get triggered. We flag it at survey.
A straight door replacement is a day. A window-to-bi-fold conversion is three to five days on site.
