Knutsford is a half-hour run from our base, and it’s the kind of place where the specification matters more than the price. Large properties, serious renovation budgets, and a town centre conservation area that means you can’t simply fit whatever you like.
Knutsford town, Over Knutsford and Nether Knutsford — Georgian and Victorian property, much of it within the conservation area. Rear elevation work, heritage finishes, and slim steel-look aluminium windows that suit period rear elevations far better than a standard casement.
Mobberley, Plumley, Tabley and Ollerton — farmhouses, barn conversions and large detached property on substantial plots. Wide bi-fold runs, matt bronze and heritage colours, and full rear elevations glazed in one system.
Cross Town, Bexton and Booths Hall — larger modern detached housing, open-plan extensions, and the full specification: dual colour, integrated blinds, flush thresholds.
Knutsford’s town centre conservation area covers a significant part of the older housing stock, and there are further designations across the surrounding villages. Permitted development rights are commonly restricted, so a change of material or style can need consent even on work you’d assume was routine.
Rear elevations that aren’t visible from a public highway are the least constrained. Listed buildings — and Knutsford has plenty — need Listed Building Consent for any window or door alteration, front or back.
